Dear Members of the European Powerlifting Community,
on behalf of the European Powerlifting Federation, I would like to welcome you to the European Open Classic Powerlifting Championship 2026, hosted on the magnificent island of Malta.
This championship stands as the most prestigious event of the European powerlifting calendar, bringing together the strongest and most accomplished lifters of our continent. We expect to see true powerlifting stars on the platform, inspiring performances, and records falling.
A warm Maltese climate, rich cultural heritage, and unique Mediterranean hospitality build an exceptional backdrop for this tremendous event. I encourage all participants to take the opportunity not only to compete but also to enjoy the beauty and character of this remarkable country.
My sincere appreciation goes to the Meet Director, Mauro Gasan, for his commitment, professionalism, and unwavering dedication in organizing this championship. This hard work ensures an outstanding experience for everyone involved.

Do you want to know more about the key elements of the Championship branding?
At Madletiks, our commitment lies in imbuing each event with a distinct identity, seamlessly capturing the essence of the respective sports discipline, all the while paying homage to the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Maltese Islands.
The logo features a Knight, drawn as the chess piece and finished in gold, paired with the eight-pointed Maltese Cross. Together they pay tribute to the Knights of the Order of St John, the military and religious order that ruled Malta from 1530 to 1798. More than just a symbol, the Knight represents a way of life built on discipline, duty and endurance, and the Order’s legacy can still be seen today in the bastions, auberges and churches of Valletta.
Each element of the logo carries a specific meaning:
- The Knight: On the chessboard, the knight is the only piece that can leap over obstacles in its path, moving forward where others cannot. It reflects the Masters athlete, who has cleared countless hurdles over a long career and keeps advancing.
- Gold: Stands for excellence and achievement, and for the golden years of experience that every Masters lifter brings to the platform.
- The Maltese Cross: The emblem of the Knights, known around the world today as a symbol of Malta. Its four arms represent the four cardinal virtues of prudence, temperance, justice and fortitude, while its eight points recall the eight “langues”, the regions of Europe from which the Knights came to serve together on one small island.
This is why the Knight felt right for these Championships. Masters lifters are the long-standing soldiers of our sport: athletes who have trained for decades, returned to the platform season after season, and kept faith with the bar through every stage of life. And just as the Knights once gathered in Malta from across Europe, in 2027 lifters from across the continent will meet on the same shores, united by their dedication to the sport.
Today, the Knights no longer defend Malta’s walls, but they remain a powerful symbol of the islands’ heritage, strength and resilience. We could think of no better emblem for the athletes who carry those same values onto the platform.
